Materials and workmanship problems
By W. Morris
Initially, these shorts were my favorites. Everything good that folks have said rang true for me, but then I started having some issues.
First, the chamios started to come unstitched. (not the first time I've had this happen on a Pearl Izumi item)
Second, after this happened, the chamios started splitting down the center seam. I sent the shorts to PI to re-stitch the chamios and asked them to also address the split, and all they did was re-stitch the chamios and send a splitting chamios back to me.
Pearl Izumi has been less than responsive regarding the warranty on the bibs. I had to send the shorts to them twice now, and most recently, they send me a set of bibless shorts as a replacement. I haven't a clue what to do with these. There's a reason I haven't bought anything but bibs since the '90s, and I am not about to start wearing strapless shorts again.
At this point, I'm pretty much done with Pearl Izumi. Recent items from Squadra, Rapha, and CCN have been a better fit, finish, and value.

Marginal Bib Short
By Spike
I have used this bib several times now. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, the leg gripper was black, not red as depicted in site photo. At first, I felt the inseam was too short. After riding in them several times, I've adjusted to that. Overall, a very comfortable bib especially for long distance rides. I'd buy another pair.
Update May 15, 2012: After using these bibs for a year, I've changed my opinion. The leg grippers continues to creap up my thigh further and further and the chamios is not that comfortable after multiple uses. Mind, I don't ride these bibs every day, only on long or special rides. Very disappointed given the cost and previous positive experience with PI products. I used a pair of Castelli Body Paint bibs for the same time period and they far exceed these!

Excellent Bib Shorts, so far
By William Martin
The actual bib shorts delivered differ a little from the photo. The red gripper strip on the legs is actually black. Otherwise the shorts are the same. The bibs are comfortable. The chamois is not terribly thick but it is very comfortable -- much better than Pearl Izumi's next level down. The bibs come down very low in front -- below the navel -- the better to take "natural breaks". My only question might be whether they would hold up well in the long run. The material seems thinner than my Assos or other Pearl Izumi bibs. Time will tell.
